My Nokia e61

E-Series

In case you are wondering why I have so many e61 blog links, it is because I use one for work. I think it’s a fantastic bit of kit and there are lots of other ‘owners’ exploring some of the phone’s functionality - see my links.

There are actually four phones in the Nokia E-Series, pictured above, which are the business focused range. They all share common functionality, such as push email, web browsing … etc.

I choose the e61, over the rest of the E-Series, for reasons including superb battery life, fantastic bright display, WLAN (push email made free over my home and work wireless) and direct Microsoft Exchange Sync. Mobile Review did a good job of putting me of the e60, with it’s heating up during calls and general poor battery life.

For anyone considering the phone, I recommend encourage it.

I’ve had only two small hick-ups with the phone:

  1. I didn’t realise that I had a backup copy of my contacts on my SIM card, so that I had an entry on the phone and one on the SIM for everyone. Until rectified, this meant that incoming calls and texts were not labelled with contact names. Not the best Nokia.

  2. I’ve had to disable power saving on the WLAN settings in the handset. Before I tried this, connection to my ZyXel router was near impossible. Again, not full marks Nokia as ZyXel are hardly at the crappy end of things.

OneStopPhoneShopI bought my e61 from OneStopPhoneShop online (part of the CarphoneWarehouse group). I think it’s my fouth phone from them, and this is my last bit of advice: If you are in the UK buy from a reputable online shop where they offer cashback over the term of the contract. You send in you 3rd, xth, xxth bill and they give you back £xx every time. If you are organised, it’s simply money that you won’t get in the highstreet, whatever the sales guy tells you.

Anyway, I plan to add bits about the e61 and software so keep an eye on things here.
